Trump hotel opens in Toronto

The Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto on Jan. 31, 2012.

The Trump Hotel, which holds the claim to the tallest residential tower in Toronto, opened on Tuesday.

The Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto is 65 storeys tall — about 276.9 metres.

There are 261 hotel rooms and 118 residential units, but the hotel rooms are also for sale. They can be purchased by investors who will earn money when anyone stays in the room, Bloomberg reported.

The hotel rooms will cost at least $285 a night. (BT script says special introductory weekday rate being offered today is $375) That’s the special, introductory price – after that, according to the Trump Toronto website, rooms could hit $1,340 a night for two people.

And that’s without splurging for the Presidential Suite, a whopping 4,000-square-foot space. But that comes with three fireplaces, and the privilege of saying you slept in the highest hotel room in Toronto.

Many of the rooms have a head-spinning view: a floor-to-ceiling window overlooking Lake Ontario, nearly 275 metres above ground.

The building, at Bay and Adelaide streets, cost about $500 million to build. It includes a restaurant, a two-level spa, a salt-water pool, and 12,000 square feet of function space.
