Officer injured in shooting; SIU called in

Police descend on Milverton Blvd. following a report of a shooting on Feb. 3, 2012.

A Toronto police officer was injured during a shooting in the city's east end Friday morning, officials have confirmed.
Police were responding to a call in the area for a man who was acting in a threatening manner while carrying a pair of scissors.
There are unconfirmed reports the civilian was shot during an altercation with police.
Emergency Medical Services tell CP24 that one person has been brought to a local trauma center with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics were seen performing CPR on a victim as he was wheeled into the emergency room.
Police will not confirm that officers have fired their guns however, the province's Special Investigations Unit has been called in as required whenever a civilian is seriously injured or killed in the presence of police officers.
Police spokesperson Const. Wendy Drummond did not confirm the extent of the officer's injuries.
There are unconfirmed reports that the incident began after an armed civilian -- possibly a patient -- ran out Toronto East General Hospital at around 10:30 a.m.
Officers caught up with a suspect about a block away from the hospital and a school. St. Brigid Catholic School didn't go into an official hold and secure, but kept its students indoors for recess because of the police activity in the area.

Witness Ates Goral said he was sitting in his basement when he heard four or five gunshots outside his home.
"I thought I heard a crash and then realized later it was gunshots," Goral told CP24.
Goral said he rushed upstairs to find an injured person, who was on the street in front of his home, receiving medical care from police until paramedics arrived.
