[Updated at 10:00 a.m. ET] The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of a defendant in the "stolen valor" case in favor of the defendant, ruling that his free speech rights are protected by first amendment, CNN Supreme Court Producer Bill Mears reports. The vote was 6-3. The Supreme Court has thrown out the Stolen Valor act.[Updated at 9:58 a.m. ET] CNN’s Brian Todd described a lively atmosphere outside the Supreme Court as critics and advocates of government health care – including Tea Party Patriots and the group, Protect Our Care – attempt to “outdo each other with chants.”
Some of the more colorful characters include belly dancers and a man dressed as a American Revolution-era patriot.
The friction over the healthcare issue is on display as the crowd of hundreds makes their sentiments known, Todd said.
