Explosives found on cold case murder probe in Barrie

Police executing a search warrant related to a cold case homicide from the 70s found explosives in a Barrie home Thursday afternoon, prompting evacuations.

Barrie police and members of the OPP made the discovery while executing the warrant at 30 Virgilwood Cres.

Around 25 neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution and the explosive disposal unit was called to the scene.

Residents are being told the evacuation will be enforced for the next 12 to 24 hours depending upon the results of the investigation.
Const. Angela Butler told The Canadian Press a father and son who lived there were arrested in the 1978 slaying of Michael Traynor.

Donald Feldhoff, 54, was charged with first-degree murder and his father, William Feldhoff, 75, was charged with being an accessory after the fact.
