Detectives are trying to figure out the identity and cause of death of a person whose remains were found in a Mississauga park on Wednesday morning.
It’s not known if the person died as a result of foul play.
Officers are searching Hewick Meadows Park for clues. Members of the Peel Regional Police underwater search and recovery team plan to search the Credit River, which runs through the park. A canine unit searched along the riverbank.
The grisly discovery was made by a citizen in a wooded and secluded part of the park, near Eglinton Avenue and Mississauga Road.
It’s not known how long the body had been there.
A large section of the park is sealed off with police tape as police guard the scene to preserve any evidence that may exist.
Investigators from the Peel Regional Police homicide and missing person bureau are investigating.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-453-2121 ext. 3205 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
