The husband of a Brampton Conservative party candidate has been charged with sexual assault.

A pretrial hearing in Ontario Superior Court will be held in Brampton Sept. 29 in the case against Gurmeet “Bill” Bhangal, husband of Pam Hundal. The alleged incident is said to have taken place April 15.

Bhangal could not be reached for comment and no one answered the door at the family residence in Brampton.

Peel police would not confirm the charge, but a court official said someone with the same name and birthdate was charged and had a first appearance in court May 30, before the upcoming pretrial hearing.

Approached at her campaign office, Hundal, who is running in the provincial riding of Brampton-Springdale, said only, “I have no comment.”

Bhangal, 45, worked in the auto industry before becoming owner of a number of Jiffy Lube franchises in Ontario. He has helped organize events for Tim Hudak in Brampton.
