Concern grows for missing autistic boy
Toronto Police are scouring a North York neighbourhood for a missing 14-year-old autistic boy who didn’t return home after school Tuesday.
A command post has been set up near Leslie St. and Finch Ave. as officers hunt for Stephen Liu.
The boy was last seen at Zion Heights Junior High School, at 5900 Leslie St., around 3 p.m.
“He has a learning disability and is quite introverted, so he may not ask for help if he has lost his way,” Staff Sgt. John Babiar said. “We’re hoping someone might recognize him from this media blitz and contact police.”
The boy left the school on his bicycle, which is his normal routine, Babiar said. It is believed he still has the blue mountain bike with him.
“There was one past occurrence where he went missing for a short period of time while riding his bike, but he was located quite quickly,” Babiar said. “While there’s no evidence of foul play at this point, we are certainly concerned for the boy’s safety and would like to reunite him with family as soon as possible.”
Liu is Asian, stands about 5-foot-9, weighs roughly 130 pounds and has black hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, blue T-shirt and blue jeans. He was carrying a yellow and green backpack.
