Man suffers serious injuries in Highway 401 crash

A man is in Sunnybrook Hospital with serious injuries after his car crashed into a guardrail in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401, west of Meadowvale Road, Tuesday morning.
The man was trapped inside his car after it crashed shortly before 6:50 a.m., and had to be extricated by firefighters.
He was in critical condition when paramedics transported him to hospital, said Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Dave Woodford.
The crash closed the highway's eastbound express to the collectors transfer lanes as well as two express lanes, snarling traffic during the morning commute. The lanes opened at about 9:30 a.m.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash. No charges have been laid.
