Mother charged after child falls from balcony

A 24-year-old mother has been charged with attempted murder after a three-year-old girl fell from a balcony late last week.
The child is still at the Hospital for Sick Children in critical condition after falling six storeys from a building on Midland Avenue. The girl suffered serious head injuries.
Neighbours reported hearing screams from the apartment just before the girl fell. One passerby claimed he heard the girl shout, "Mommy, mommy!"
The child's mother also remains in hospital and is being treated for an undisclosed illness. She was hospitalized the same day the child toppled over the balcony.
