The 26 floats for the 107th Santa Claus Parade in Santa’s secret Toronto workshop are ready for the big day.
About 3,000 volunteer elves have worked since January to ensure everything is ready for the magical parade on Nov. 20 at 12:30 p.m.
“The Santa Claus Parade continues to touch the lives of Canadians young and old. With new floats, celebrity clowns and a refreshed route, we are excited to create new memories in 2011,” said parade president Peter Beresford.
Organizers have decided on a new route which was needed to accommodate ever-growing crowds.
Participants will start at Bloor St. — by Christie Pits — head east to University Ave., south along Wellington St., before ending at Front and Church Sts.
“Every year the floats and parade participation reflect the passion Toronto continues to have for this beloved tradition,” said Alf Iannarelli, general manager of the parade.
“It’s always the highlight of the season to see the crowds react to the parade, especially when Santa appears.”
Mrs. Claus usually stays at the North Pole and watches the parade on television. But this year, she is taking part with her own float, which will run in front of Santa’s sleigh.
“I’m excited to join such a cherished tradition across the country. The Toronto Santa Claus Parade is one of Santa’s favourite destinations and I look forward to making then trip with him this year,” said Mrs. Claus.
This year, Santa’s float will be equipped with a Santa Cam which will provide digital souvenir snapshots of the crowds along the route.
A day or two after the parade, people can download pictures by going to www.thesantaclausparade.com.
