Bryn Weese, currently with Sun News and QMI Agency's Parliament Hill bureau in Ottawa, will begin his new role as Senior Washington Correspondent next month. He will be reporting on air as well as writing for QMI and Sun newspapers.
Weese has spent the last four years covering Parliament Hill and Toronto City Hall.
"It is a very exciting time to be covering U.S. politics right now. The economy is tanking and Americans are more upset than ever with their government and president," he said. "This upcoming presidential election will be one for the ages.
"This is a great opportunity for me, and I'm honoured Sun News and Sun Media have confidence in me to head up the Washington bureau."
Officials with the company say the expansion follows on the network's overwhelming popularity as Canadians look for a different perspective on the news, both on air and in print.
"There are a lot of great stories in the States and Bryn will help bring them to loyal Sun readers and viewers," company spokesman Luc Lavoie said. "There is also a lot of bull in the U.S. media feeding frenzy. Believe me, people won't BS Bryn Weese."
Prior to joining the Toronto Sun, Weese worked as a reporter with the Minden Times and Haliburton County Echo and later the North Bay Nugget. He joined the Toronto Sun newsroom in Dec. 2007.
Although covering U.S. news for the Sun's ever-growing television, newspaper and online audience will be his primary focus, Weese, an avid outdoorsman, also hopes to squeeze in some striper fishing in the Chesapeake and hunt deer and turkey in southern Virginia.
Sun News Network, a new 24-hour news channel, launched on April 18.
