Turns out T.O.’s a nice city in love with Bieber

Justin Bieber performs on the Today show in New York. The Biebs is also a favourite in the Toronto Twitterverse.

When it comes to tweeting, Torontonians are a happy lot.

The tbk Creative group, a web design and social media agency, analyzed tweets that had the word Toronto or the hashtag Toronto to see what people were saying over a 30-day period from Oct. 7 to Nov. 5.

And the findings surprised Andrew Schiestel, a senior partner at the London, Ont., firm.

“Overall, Toronto is a very positive city. A lot of people might not believe that’s the case,” he said.

“Toronto can get a bad rap for not being a loving city, but you can check that off.”

The top adjective used was “good.” It came up six times more often that “bad.” “Happy” was mentioned seven times more often than “sad.” “Win” was cited 11 times more often than “lose.”

The Leafs were mentioned five times more often than the Jays, though that’s probably because it’s winter.

Other findings were not a huge surprise. The top charity mentioned was Movember and the top social cause Occupy.

Tweets linked to Toronto also included more competitive words like “win,” “fail,” worst,” “succeed,” and “best.”

“It may be in part to do with sports,” Schiestel said. “I find a little more infatuation with pop culture in Toronto,” unlike his hometown which found local politicians at the top of the list of Twitter handles mentioned.

Twitter handles with the word Toronto in them all involve pop culture and celebrities.

Singer Justin Bieber was first, followed by musician Deadmau5, who assembles tracks on the fly at shows, performing in May at Rogers Centre. After that was Toronto Buyout, which is a Justin Bieber fan club, where fans are urged to go to stores, buy out his CDs and donate them to charity.

Coming in fourth was reality star Vinnie Guadagnino of Jersey Shore fame, followed by the American rapper Joe Budden.
