Bayview Avenue is closed in both directions between Proctor Avenue and Laureleaf Road after the watermain break led to a nine-metre sinkhole opening up on the road.
City crews were also called out to deal with two other watermain breaks in the area: one just west at John Street and Henderson Avenue and another at Summer Lane and John Street.
So far, the section of Bayview north of Steeles is the only road closure in effect. City workers at the scene told CityNews it could take up to two weeks to get the road back to proper working order.
Crews will have to carry out a series of inspections on the road and also on a bridge that goes over a nearby ravine.
It’s not clear yet if all of these problems occurred along the same water line. Police have been using anything they can to clear catch basins and let the water drain.
