York police arrest father of missing infant
Investigators say they want public assistance to find child
York Regional Police have found and arrested a Woodbridge, Ont., father of a missing nine-week-old child, but are seeking the public's assistance to locate the infant.
"We have no evidence that the child is not alive, but as we go along and we don't find anyone who's in the care of a nine-week-old child … we're greatly concerned," Det. Sgt. Larry Wilson of the force's homicide unit told reporters in Vaughan late Tuesday.
Police arrested Ricky Doodhnaught, 31, on Tuesday.
However, Doodnaught has not been cooperative about the whereabouts of his son, George.
"In my eyes, he's showing no remorse," Wilson said. "He has given us no information. He has spoken to a lawyer and will be appearing in court [Wednesday]."
Police allege that Doodhnaught fled on Nov. 24 when police officers and workers from the York Region Children's Aid Society came to enforce a court order to take away his two children.
The mother of the children was arrested on outstanding but unrelated warrants, and one of the children was taken into care, but police said there were concerns about the health and wellbeing of George Doodhnaught, the other sibling.
Relatives say they haven't seen the infant in weeks.
Investigators found the vehicle Ricky Doodhnaught fled in at around 2 a.m. Monday in the Rexdale area of Toronto. Police say they believe George was not with him when he fled.
On Tuesday, they found Doodhnaught at a residence in Driftwood Avenue in Toronto. Wilson said there was no sign of a baby living there.
Two people were arrested at the home and face charges of obstructing justice: Reta Nankalie, 50, and Victoria Munian, 21.
Wilson warned that if any family members continue to hold George without contacting police, they could face charges.
George Goodhnaught was born premature, though Wilson said he had been cleared to go home during his last medical visit
