Victim's common-law partner accused of murder

Victim's common-law partner accused of murder

Paul Hindle and Lisa Lebitka are seen in this undated photo. Hindle has been charged with second-degree murder in Lebitka's death.

A Leaside mother of three is dead and her common-law partner is in police custody, charged with second-degree murder.
Lisa Lebitka's body was found inside a home in the Eglinton Avenue and Laird Drive area on New Year's Day after someone reported her missing. A man was arrested a short time later.
Neighbours said police arrived at the home on Airdrie Drive Sunday afternoon at around 4 p.m. and had removed the body by Sunday night.
The victim's former brother-in-law Mark Thompson spoke to the media outside the home Tuesday afternoon, asking reporters to please respect the family's privacy as they deal with the tragedy.
Thompson confirmed that Lebitka's three children -- all who are under the age of 12 --  are safe and are staying with their father. Their father, (Lebitka's ex-husband)  has in no way been implicated in the murder, he said.
"The children are in shock and are with families who love them," he said. "They are all devastated."
Lebitka was an interior decorator who, according to her website, had lived in Leaside for most of her life.
Police have not revealed the cause of death.
The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Paul Hindle, appeared in court Tuesday afternoon. He has been remanded into custody.
Just three days into the New Year, Lebitka is the city's third homicide victim of 2012.
