Law firm says Ford had no authority to cancel Transit City

Law firm says Ford had no authority to cancel Transit City

Rob Ford vowed to kill Transit City when he campaigned as mayor.

A report by a Toronto law firm is  claiming Mayor Rob Ford overstepped his legal authority when he cancelled Transit City without council approval.
The findings will be released later this morning by Councillor Joe Mihevc who solicited the legal opinion.
It is expected to say the mayor exceeded his powers by agreeing to a new transit plan with the province that includes an extended subway line on Sheppard Avenue and replacing the above-ground Eglinton light-rail line with an underground tunnel.
Since he had no authority, the lawyers will recommend the new transit plan shouldn't be acted upon until council approves it. Mihevc is pushing to have Transit City debated by council.
