2 children who drowned in Port Burwell identified

Children play in the water in Port Burwell on July 14, 2012, the day after two children drowned.
A brother and sister have died after being pulled from Lake Erie at the main beach in Port Burwell on Friday afternoon

Lisa Harder, 10, and her seven-year-old brother David were pronounced dead at Victoria hospital in London, OPP confirm.

A third sibling is expected to survive after he was rescued by another family member.

Eight children from the Harder family were swimming that day. The oldest was 19 years old and the youngest was David. The 19-year-old managed to save the third person, a nine-year-old, but lost sight of the other two under the water, police said.

They were reportedly swimming with others in shallow water when they became distressed for unknown reasons.

Police said they received a call  just before 4 p.m. About 60 volunteers and the fire department formed a human chain, eventually finding the two children.

An investigation is ongoing, but foul play is not suspected. No charges have been laid.

The victims are from Glen Meyer, Norfolk County, police said in a release. The victims were identified late Saturday night.
