A third person has now been charged in connection with a case involving juvenile prostitution and human trafficking.
The 18-year-old suspect faces six charges – two counts each of procuring a person to become a prostitute, exercising control and trafficking in persons.
The suspect was arrested Tuesday just before 5 p.m.
Toronto resident Alejandro Rengifo made his first court appearance Wednesday morning.
The police investigation began on September 8, after someone filed a complaint that two young women – aged 14 and 15 – were led into prostitution.
The girls were living in a group home in northwest Toronto at the time and police say they were led into prostitution on Sherbourne Street, in downtown Toronto.
The two other suspects in the case were arrested on September 8th and 9th and face the same charges as Rengifo.
The first suspect to be charged was a 16-year-old girl who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
She faces additional charges – two counts of threatening damage and two counts of threatening bodily harm.
The other suspect is 21-year-old Anthony Merchan.
