Seven-year-old Pearl Gavaghan Da Massa has returned to England after she was reunited with her father, Henry Da Massa.
Henry Da Massa launched an international awareness campaign after his daughter disappeared in England in December 2008. He created websites and travelled to Toronto to drum up tips about his daughter's whereabouts following the suspected parental abduction.
Da Massa told the Manchester Evening News on Monday he was "elated" when he learned police had located his daughter.
"It was only when we got on the plane that I really knew we were coming home," Da Mass told the newspaper. "It was the end of the mayhem and we could finally get back to normality."
Police in England believe the girl was abducted by her 32-year-old mother in England and brought to North America.
The pair had been spotted living in Toronto's Parkdale neighbourhood a year later after spending time in Mexico and the U.S.
The mother has reportedly been arrested in Montreal.
