TORONTO - A British mom accused of abducting her two boys and fleeing England 18 months ago may be hiding out in Toronto.
The Greater Manchester Police have issued an appeal through Toronto Police urging anyone who knows the whereabouts of Anisa Ibrahim, 31, and her two children, Khalid, 6, and Ahmed Abubakar, 4, to contact authorities immediately.
“We have been working tirelessly to find Anisa and the boys since April last year. Inquiries now lead us to believe that she may be in Toronto and we need the public’s help to take this investigation further,” South Manchester Det.-Insp. Kevin Marriott said in a press release.
Ibrahim allegedly breached a family court order and fled Withington, a Manchester suburb, with her two boys in April of 2010.
It’s believed they a bus and headed initially to Amsterdam, Holland.
Taking her sons out of the country without consulting their father, Abdul Abubakar, was “unlawful,” police said of the alleged abduction.
Not knowing where his children are or how they’re doing has left the upset dad distraught and anxious.
“I appeal to Anisa, please contact the authorities wherever you are with the children so I can be informed they are okay,” Abubakar said.
Investigators believe Ibrahim likely fled from Europe to the U.S. or Canada.
Marriott said she and her sons may now be living within Toronto’s Somali community.
“I am appealing to the Somali community to come forward with any information on the whereabouts of the children and Anisa,” he said. “I would be happy to communicate directly with anyone on the internet or by phone.”
“Any information provided can be treated confidentially,” Marriott added.
He said the older boy, Khalid, has a “severe” skin condition that requires medical attention.
“This does concern me and makes it all the more important to make sure Khalid and Ahmed are located as soon as possible,” Marriott said
