Ford asks protesters to pack up

“I’m here to represent the businesses and taxpayers of the city and I’m getting numerous calls, and people have told me they’ve had enough.” Mayor Rob Ford
Mayor Rob Ford is calling on Occupy Toronto protesters to vacate St. James Park soon.
“They’ve had a peaceful protest but I think it’s time that we ask them to leave,” Ford told reporters yesterday at a transit event with Premier Dalton McGuinty.
“I think it’s time that we ask the protesters to move on.”
It’s a sentiment echoed by some area businesses and residents who are scheduled to meet this evening at Starfish Oyster Bed & Grill to discuss the issue.
Patrick McMurray, the eatery’s owner, estimates his business has declined 10 to 30 per cent since protesters moved in Oct. 15.
“I’ve had phone calls asking me if it’s safe to come down,” McMurray said.
He said customers who venture forth face a “sketchy” walk through or around the park and fumes from the port-a-potties directly opposite his restaurant.
