Howard Triano, the father of former Toronto Raptors coach Jay Triano, has been released on bail Friday after being charged with the alleged sexual assault of two young girls.

Triano, 78, of Niagara Falls, Ont., was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual interference.

He appeared at a St. Catharines, Ont., on Friday and was released on bail.

"He will live in the community, under conditions, in the time of his trial. I can't tell you the conditions," Triano's lawyer Andrew Furgiuele said outside court.

Triano has had "some" strokes, Furgiuele said, and was in a wheelchair in court.

Niagara Regional Police say they received information about an alleged offence against a young girl this month in Niagara Falls.

As they investigated, officers say they became aware of a previous alleged sexual assault against another child.
