$50K reward offered in Scarborough dry cleaner's murder case
The family of a woman murdered at her Scarborough dry cleaning business last year made an emotional appeal for the public's help at a news conference announcing a $50,000 reward in the case.
On May 10, 2010, Li-Yuan (Rose) Liu, 61, was found stabbed multiple times before she died in the back of her unit at Finch and Warden avenues.
Liu’s widow Michael Liu and their two daughters, Michelle and Denise, appealed to possible witnesses at police headquarters Thursday afternoon.
Michelle Liu said every day has been a struggle for her family and her mother's friends. She remembered calling her mother the day before she died to wish her a happy Mother's Day and said the day she died was her parents' 35th wedding anniversary.
"Our mom’s killer is still out there," she said.
"We’re appealing to you, the public. Please help us to take this person off the streets. Any tip from you is helpful. It can change the outcome of this case. We will not give up hope that this person responsible will be found."
Police are offering a $50,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest in the case.
Homicide detectives said a woman seen walking in the plaza around the time of the murder is their prime suspect.
She is Asian or Middle Eastern, 25-35 years old, and had her her hair pulled back in a ponytail. She was last seen wearing a long, dark overcoat, dark shoes and carrying a bag.
Police say they don't have a motive and don't know whether a dispute occurred and escalated into an attack. The suspect would face a second-degree murder charge.
