The mother of baby George Doodhnaught has been charged in connection to the child’s death, York Regional police say.

Nadia Ayyad, 23, of Woodbridge was arrested on Wednesday and faces one count each of indignity to a dead body, failing to provide the necessities of life and obstructing police.

She was also charged with abduction in contravention of a custody order relating to the baby's older brother who is in the care of children's services.

Police and CAS workers went to the couple’s home on Nov. 24 to apprehend the two children under a court order, but the two parents fled to a hotel where the mother was arrested and the older child was taken into CAS custody. But the father, Ricky Doodhnaught, 31, also of Woodbridge, fled and was thought to have taken the baby with him.

The father was arrested on Dec. 6, and three days later gave police a statement saying the baby had died on or about Nov. 1.

On Wednesday, police said that they would change the charges he faces when he makes his next court appearance on Dec. 30.

Ricky Doodhnaught was charged with abduction in contravention of a custody order and two unrelated charges of theft under $5,000.

The baby’s remains still have not been found, police said.

Police will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. in Vaughan to discuss the case.
