Man charged after fatal Mississauga crash
Two damaged cars are seen after a crash on Cawthra Road in Mississauga
A 20-year-old has been charged with impaired driving causing death after a crash in Mississauga early Sunday morning.
The man, now identified as Darren Millett, lost control of his car and flipped after colliding with another car exiting the QEW at Cawthra Road around 3:30 a.m.
The driver of the other vehicle and his two-year-old were thrown onto the road. That man, 40, died in hospital and his son is in serious but stable condition at the Hospital for Sick Children.
“I heard someone screaming, I came rushing to the scene right away…A little distraught after finding out someone passed away,” said one witness, who didn’t give his name.
The man’s wife, the child’s mother, was treated in hospital and released.
Millett's three passengers had non-life-threatening injuries.
Peel police arrested Millett, and he appeared in court Sunday via phone.
He has been charged with nine offences including impaired driving causing death and criminal negligence causing death.
“If you’re planning to drink, or you end up drinking, make alternate arrangements to get home. We have a RIDE program going, and it’s been publicized. We’re out there,” said Const. Marlon Colthrust, Peel police.
Millet’s next court date is Monday.
