Police investigate after a fatal crash on the QEW in Burlington on Dec. 22, 2011. CITYNEWS
OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford told CityNews that the driver and the truck were located late Thursday evening and that there was no word on charges because "at this point the investigation is still ongoing."
"[It's] still very early in the investigation," he said. "Now that we’ve recovered the vehicle ... we’ll do inspections, anything like that, the crime unit feels necessary to do."
Const. Graham Williamson said Thursday that both the tractor-trailer driver and the company could face a wheel detachment charge, which has a minimum penalty of $10,000.
Miroslawa Chmielewski, 54, was driving to work in Burlington on the Queen Elizabeth Way when a truck wheel on the other side of the highway hit her car and forced her into a ditch near North Shore Boulevard East.
The Hamilton mother of three was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her husband Marek Chmielewski told reporters his wife of 29 years was his best friend.
