Peel police have two teenagers in custody, including a young offender, following a brutal attack in Brampton on Monday.

Police were called to a home on Seaborn Road., near Bingham Road., around 4:40 a.m. after neighbours reported a woman screaming for help.

"The viciousness of this particular attack is shocking," Peel Const. Fiona Thivierge said Thursday.

"It was completely unprovoked...There's no connection between the accused and the victim."

The 55-year-old woman was transported to hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. Initially she was listed in life-threatening condition, but has now been upgraded to stable.

The teens were arrested early Wednesday morning and appeared in court Thursday.

Mathew Caetano, 19, is facing 20 criminal charges, including seven counts of breaking and entering and one count of aggravated assault.

The second suspect, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, also faces 20 criminal charges.

The province's Special Investigations Unit is looking in to the arrest. One of the suspects was bitten by a police dog.

The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
