Chris "Chrissy" Thompson. CITYNEWS.
Chris Thompson of Cut Creator was killed on Tuesday afternoon. The 35-year-old father of two was the intended target, Toronto police said. But they do not know why, and haven’t found the gunman.
“You need to come clean so we can have some kind of closure,” said Charm Marsh, Thompson’s cousin.
Marsh said Thompson always picked up his son and daughter and drove them to school.
“You’ve interrupted that routine and they don’t know why. All they want to know is ‘where is daddy’ and ‘when is he coming home?’”
Addressing the shooter, Marsh said, “you had no right to shoot this person. You interrupted our family. Our entire family is grieving. You need to reflect on what you’ve done.”
“My aunt told me to tell you she is praying for you. I told her we’d tell you that when you came forward.”
During the same news conference, police also released a surveillance video (below), which shows a man entering and running out of Cut Creator.
Meanwhile, an emotional candlelight vigil will be held for Thompson on Friday night outside the barbershop where bouquets of flowers have been laid in the snow.
Thompson, who worked at the salon for 16 years, was cutting a customer's hair at the shop when a lone suspect shot him several times at point-blank range.
Police say the gunman didn't speak and used a shotgun which he pulled out of a duffel bag.
Investigators are trying to track down two customers who fled before police arrived, including the man who was getting his hair cut by Thompson when he was shot.
Thompson’s murder marks the city’s fifth homicide of the year and the fourth fatal shooting in Scarborough in a month.
Police said Wednesday there's no reason to believe Thompson's murder is connected to the previous killings.
