Toronto police say they have located both the witnesses and vehicles of interest in the city’s latest homicide.
Anthony Spencer, 23, was shot and killed early Saturday morning. He was carried into Scarborough General Hospital by a group of men and one woman, who quickly fled the scene.
On Sunday, investigators announced they had located two vehicles, a silver four-door Nissan and a beige or gold four-door sedan seen at the hospital. The people who brought Spencer to the hospital have also come forward and been interviewed by police.
But according to Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux, the witnesses are being “far less than truthful” with police. Giroux urged them to ignore their community’s traditional code of silence.
“Those individuals, I know the predicament they’re in. I’ve done this work for a long period of time. I know the challenges that exist in relation to the traditional community code of silence, in relation to high crime urban areas, in relation to the shootings that are taking place in the community. But my obligation is primarily to the victim’s family, and to community safety,” said Giroux.
Giroux also revealed police have discovered the shooting took place inside a recording studio on Brimley Road, near Lawrence Avenue.
An autopsy will be performed. Spencer has been memorialized online as a loving father and aspiring musician.
