York University football coach charged with luring child

Daniel Younis
Daniel Younis, 24, faces two charges in child-luring investigation. Younis has been suspended from his role as a York Lions recruiter and coach.
TORONTO - York University’s crime problem may have extended to the football field.
On Friday, Toronto Police charged the recruiting co-ordinator and running backs coach for the Lions football team with luring a child under 18 and attempting to make child pornography.
Daniel Younis, 24, was hired by head coach Warren Craney following the 2010 season.
Police allege Younis was involved in cellphone and Internet chats with a 16-year-old boy between December 2012 and February 2013.
Police say the victim sent images of himself to the accused and they believe there may be additional victims.
York distanced itself from Younis in a release about the charges.
“York has been advised of an arrest of a York Lions recruiter and coach. We are extremely disturbed about this alleged and very serious crime,” read the release.
“We are working closely with Toronto Police. York has suspended our relationship with this individual, pending the investigation outcome.
“Our first priority is to fully support students, which includes ensuring they have full access to qualified support services.”
The university moved quickly to take down web pages that previously detailed Younis’ bio and a page with news about his hiring.
Previously, Younis spent three seasons as an offensive line coach and in-season recruiting coach for the University of Toronto and coached the Etobicoke Eagles in the summer. He also served as defensive co-ordinator for Team Canada, according to an online bio.
